1961 Porsche-Diesel 238 Standard Star Tractor

This 1961 Porsche-Diesel 238 Standard Star Tractor was acquired by the current owner on BaT in March 2022 and is finished in red with beige wheels. Power is from a 1.6-liter diesel inline-twin paired with a dual-range four-speed gearbox, and additional equipment includes headlights and taillights, rear half fenders, a fender-mounted jump seat, a drawbar and cargo platform, and a rear power take-off. Service under current ownership involved replacing the battery and changing the oil. This Porsche-Diesel 238 is offered at no reserve on dealer consignment in Warrenville, Illinois, with shop manuals, a spare parts list, retrospective literature, and a bill of sale.

The 238 Standard Star tractor entered production in 1961, and approximately 3,400 units were produced by Porsche-Diesel through 1962. The body and chassis of this example were reportedly repainted red under prior ownership, while the seat is finished in beige. Features include headlights and taillights, a side-mounted muffler with an exhaust stack, rear half fenders, a fender-mounted jump seat, and Porsche Diesel badging.

Beige-painted wheels are accented by red hubs and wear 5.50-16 front and 12.4-28 rear agricultural tires. Stopping power is from independent rear drum brakes.

The spring-suspended operator’s seat wears a padded red vinyl cover embroidered with the Porsche-Diesel script. A jump seat cushion is mounted on the left fender, and controls include a throttle, a shifter, a transmission range selector, and brake pedals.

A three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of an instrument panel that houses an engine temperature gauge, ignition and starter controls, a headlight switch, and warning lights. The tractor is not equipped with an hour meter, therefore total operating hours are unknown.

The 1.6-liter diesel inline-twin is equipped with Bosch mechanical fuel injection, and power is sent to the rear wheels through a dual-range four-speed manual gearbox that delivers eight forward speeds and two in reverse. Service under current ownership included replacing the battery and changing the oil.

The tractor is equipped with a rear power take-off, a draw bar, a pin hitch, and a cargo platform.
