1957 John Deere 420S

This 1957 John Deere 420 is a Standard example that is powered by a 1.9-liter twin paired with an unsynchronized five-speed manual transmission. The tractor was reportedly refinished in green and yellow under a previous ownership, and it was acquired by the seller in 2022 for use in parades. Equipment includes a rear power take-off, a three-point hitch assembly, spin-out adjustable-width rear wheels, black vinyl seat cushions, headlights, a rear work light, and a flag mount. This 420-S is now offered in Utah with a bill of sale.

The John Deere 420 series was manufactured from 1956-1958 in several configurations. This Standard example is believed to have been refinished in green and yellow under previous ownership. Features include a screen-style grille, a silver-finished exhaust stack, a rear work light, a side step, a flag mount, and headlights. Paint imperfections are visible in the gallery.

The rear spin-out adjustable-width wheels are finished in yellow and gray and mounted with 13.6-24″ Firestone Traction Field and Road tires, while the front yellow-finished wheels are mounted with 6.00-16″ Titan tires.

The black-finished steel seat is fitted with black vinyl cushions. Controls include a clutch pedal, a hand throttle, and dual pedals for the individual rear brakes. The shift lever is centrally mounted on top of the transmission case. The seat cushion is torn and weathered.

The three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a black dash panel that houses John Deere-branded gauges for coolant temperature and amperage in addition to a combination speedometer, tachometer, and hour meter that shows 2,500 hours. An oil pressure gauge is mounted to the right side of the engine.

The gasoline-powered 1.9-liter twin was rated at approximately 26 drawbar horsepower and sends power to the rear wheels through a five-speed unsynchronized manual transmission. The oil, oil filter, fuel, and fuel filter were changed in July 2024 according to the seller.

The tractor is equipped with a hydraulically lifted three-point hitch assembly and a rear power take-off. The seller notes that the power take-off system has not been tested under current ownership.
