1956 John Deere 420U Industrial

This 1956 John Deere 420U Industrial is finished in yellow and powered by a gasoline-fueled 113ci twin paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include adjustable-width rear wheels, rear half fenders, headlights, a rear work light, a silver-finished exhaust stack, and a rear hitch. The tractor was refurbished prior to the selling dealer’s acquisition in 2021, and work under current ownership included replacing the battery and changing the oil and filter. This John Deere 420U is now offered by the selling dealer in Colorado with a bill of sale.

The John Deere 420 series had several configurations throughout its three-year run from 1956-1958. The 420U Industrial was finished in yellow from the factory with available options applicable to industrial work. This example was refinished under previous ownership, and features include a screen-style grille, a silver-finished exhaust stack, headlights, and rear half fenders.

The yellow-finished wheels wear 6.00-16 front and 11.2-24 rear Carlisle Specialist tires. The rear wheel width can be adjusted by bolt placement or by reversing the center hub.

The operator’s station is equipped with a steel seat that is fitted with cushions trimmed in black vinyl. Controls include a clutch pedal a hand throttle, a heel-operated throttle, and dual pedals for the individual rear brakes. The shift lever is centrally mounted on top of the transmission case.

The three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a body-color dash panel that houses John Deere-branded gauges for water temperature and amperage in addition to a combination speedometer, tachometer, and hour meter. The hour meter shows 28 hours, approximately 4 of which were added under current ownership.

The gasoline-fueled 113ci twin sends power to the rear wheels through an unsynchronized four-speed manual transmission. The battery was replaced in 2021, and an oil and filter change was completed in 2023 according to the seller.

The tractor is equipped with a rear work light and a rear hitch with stabilizer pins.
