This 1944 John Deere LA tractor spent time in New York before it was purchased by the seller in 2009 and relocated to Pennsylvania. Subsequent work included overhauling the engine, re-coring the radiator, and replacing the sickle bar pitman arm. The tractor is finished in green and powered by a gasoline-fueled 77ci twin paired with a three-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes forward-facing work lights, a sickle bar, a belt pulley, rear half fenders, and a pin hitch. This John Deere LA is offered at no reserve in Pennsylvania with a two-way plow, cultivators, a production information certificate, and a bill of sale.
The model LA was introduced in 1941 as a larger variant of the Deere Model L lightweight tractor and featured a longer chassis. This example has been refinished in green and is equipped with forward-facing work lights, rear half fenders, a body-color intake stack, and a silver-finished exhaust stack.
Yellow-finished steel wheels are fitted with weights and mounted with three-rib Firestone front and 8.3-24 Continental rear tires. Stopping power is from independent rear drum brakes. The seller states that the tires were replaced under current ownership.
The operator’s station houses a spring-suspended steel seat, and controls include a starter knob, a hand throttle, a clutch pedal on the left, and twin pedals for the individual rear brakes on the right. The shift lever is centrally mounted on top of the transmission case.
The three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a body-color panel housing an ammeter and a light switch. An oil pressure gauge is mounted forward on the left side of the engine. The tractor is not equipped with an hour meter.
The gasoline-fueled 77ci twin was overhauled in 2009 under current ownership and was factory rated at 10.46 drawbar horsepower. Power is sent to the rear wheel through a three-speed manual transmission. Additional work involved re-coring the radiator in 2009 as well as overhauling the carburetor in 2010.
The tractor is equipped with a PTO shaft, a belt pulley, a rear pin hitch, and a sickle bar with a wood pitman arm. A drive belt for the sickle bar is included in the sale.
A document produced by the Two-Cylinder Club lists the serial number, special equipment, and ship date of the tractor. Operating manuals, a part catalog, cultivators, and a two-way plow are also included in the sale, and additional photos can be viewed in the gallery below.
