This 1941 John Deere LA farm tractor is equipped with a “LUC” 1.3L two-cylinder gasoline engine and 3-speed manual transmission. The model LA was introduced in 1941 as a larger variant of the Deere Model L lightweight tractor, and featured a larger motor, longer chassis, and 540 rpm PTO. Purchased in 2009 by the current owner, it has since seen occasional use for hay rides and transport around the owner’s Vermont property. The tractor is said to be in good running condition and was serviced just prior to the sale with a carburetor cleaning and rebuild of the starter solenoid. The selling dealer is representing the tractor on behalf of the current owner, and it is sold at no reserve with a Connecticut bill of sale.

LA tractors were configured with a “standard” non-adjustable front track, and weighed approximately 2,200 lbs, with a top speed of 9 mph. Rubber tires were equipped standard on L and LA tractors, and the 24″ rear wheels are feature independent braking for greater maneuverability. The seller states that the tractor appears to retain its original equipment and is mechanically sound.

Gears are engaged with a foot clutch, and the individual foot levers for braking can  be seen here. An amperes gauge is the only instrumentation, and these tractors were equipped with a 6-volt system when new. A light switch is installed but headlamps are not currently equipped.

Power is supplied by a 1.3L liquid-cooled two-cylinder “LUC” engine backed by a 3-speed manual transmission. Power ratings were 10.46 drawbar hp and 12.93 hp at the belt, and a 540 rpm PTO shaft was standard equipment. The motor is said to perform well, and forward and reverse gears engage properly. Prior to the sale, the Marvel Schebler carburetor was removed and cleaned, and the starter solenoid was rebuilt. The exhaust manifold and stack pictured above show pitting and corrosion, and a vertically-mounted oil bath air cleaner protrudes from the rear of the engine cover.

The tractor’s serial tag is present on the rear axle, and the seller states that the rear axles appear to have been serviced and resealed.
