This 1940 John Deere L utility tractor underwent a refurbishment in 2016 that included the overhaul of its gasoline-fueled 66ci Hercules NXB twin and a repaint in green with yellow accents. Features include a hollow-tube steel frame and non-adjustable wide-set front wheels as well as rear half fenders and a straight drawbar. This model L was acquired by the seller in 2017 and is now offered at no reserve in Arizona with a bill of sale.
The model L was built on a hollow tube steel frame, and the body and running gear of this example were reportedly repainted green with yellow John Deere graphics under previous ownership. Yellow-finished steel wheels with green-painted centers are mounted with 5.00×15″ Deestone D401 three-rib front and 9.50×24″ Speedways Grip King rear tires. Braking is provided by independent rear drums
The operator’s station houses a three-spoke steering wheel, a spring-suspended steel seat, and metal plate footboards along with controls that include a hand throttle, a clutch pedal on the left, and twin pedals for the individual rear brakes on the right. The gasoline-fueled 66ci Hercules NXB twin features hand-crank starting and was reportedly rebuilt under previous ownership. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a single-plate dry clutch and a Ford three-speed manual transmission. Service included an oil change in 2022.
