This 1936 Mullins Red Cap is a luggage trailer that was acquired by the seller in 2016 and has since been refinished in black. The trailer features a hinged lid that opens to reveal a carpeted interior, and it rides on a leaf-sprung Dexter axle with 15″ Ford artillery-style wheels wearing refinished hubcaps. This Mullins utility trailer is now offered with spare hubcaps, a custom canvas tent enclosure, a stock rear axle fitted with six-lug wheels, two hitch balls, and a clean Tennessee title in the seller’s name.
The Mullins Red Cap trailer was produced between 1936 and 1938, and its name was derived from the red hats worn by railroad baggage porters of the era. This example received a two-stage repaint in black and features a front-hinged lid, a tube stand, and a fold-up license plate holder with a light. The taillights are from a 1936 Ford and have been re-wired and fitted with LED bulbs. The trailer can be attached to a vehicle using a 1-3/4″ coupler as well as a four-pin connector.
The interior compartment features a gray carpeted liner.
The sale includes a custom canvas tent with a zipper and ventilation windows.
A Dexter large-bearing axle is suspended by leaf springs and features Ford 5×4.5″ hubs. The 15″ artillery-style wheels are finished in black and wear re-chromed and painted Mullins dog dish hubcaps as well as Coker bias ply-style radial tires. The condition of the hubcaps prior to the refresh is shown in the gallery, and the sale includes a removed axle with six-lug hubs and early-style wheels.
