1957 John Deere 420W

This 1957 John Deere 420W row-crop utility tractor was refurbished before being purchased by the seller in 2024. It is finished in green with yellow wheels, and power is from a gasoline-fueled 113ci twin paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Features include an adjustable rear track, rear half fenders, headlights, a rear work light, a rear power take-off, and a three-point hitch. The John Deere 420 series was produced in several configurations during its three-year production run from 1956 to 1958. This 420W row-crop utility variant was refinished in green with yellow accents under prior ownership and features a screen-style grille, headlights, a rear work light, rear half fenders, and a John Deere badge on the engine cover. Service in preparation for the sale involved replacing the headlights and installing a stainless-steel exhaust stack.

Yellow-finished steel wheels are mounted with three-rib front and 13.6-28″ rear Firestone agricultural tires, and the rear track width is adjustable.

The operator’s station has a hinged steel seat that was reupholstered in black vinyl under current ownership. A shifter lever is mounted on top of the transmission case, and other controls include a clutch pedal, a hand throttle, and dual pedals for the individual rear brakes.

The three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a black dash panel that houses John Deere-branded gauges for coolant temperature and amperage in addition to a combination speedometer, tachometer, and hour meter. An oil pressure gauge is mounted to the right side of the engine. The hour meter shows 114 hours. The seller notes that the gauges fog in humid conditions.

The gasoline-fueled 113ci twin sends power to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. Service in preparation for the sale included replacing the intake manifold gasket, installing a fuel bowl assembly, and changing the oil.

The tractor is equipped with a hydraulically lifted three-point hitch and a rear power take-off shaft.
