1947 McCormick Farmall A

This 1947 McCormick Farmall A was purchased new by the seller’s father and refurbished in 2003. Work included stripping the paint and refinishing the body and exterior components in red with factory-style graphics as well as replacing and repairing engine and transmission components. The tractor is powered by a gasoline-fueled 113ci inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include an electric starter, headlights, and rear half fenders in addition to a rear drawbar hitch, belt pulley, and power take-off. This Farmall A is now offered in Washington with an owner’s manual and a bill of sale.

The Farmall A was produced by International Harvester from 1939 to 1947 and marketed under the McCormick-Deering, McCormick, Farmall, and International nameplates. This example was refinished in red with factory-style graphics during a refurbishment in 2003, at which time the exhaust stack was replaced. Features include headlights, wraparound horizontal grille bars, and rear half fenders. A scratch on the right rear fender is pictured in the gallery.

Red steel wheels with silver rims wear front 4.00-15″ and rear 9.5-24″ Firestone tires that were mounted in 2003, and the brakes were replaced at that time.

The operator’s station features a steel seat along with brake pedals, a shifter, and a hand-controlled throttle. The tractor is equipped with an electric starter, and the gray seat cushion was replaced during the refurbishment in 2003.

The three-spoke steering wheel sits to the right of an ammeter as well as ignition and starter controls. The tractor is not equipped with an hour meter.

The offset gasoline-fueled 113ci “Cultivision” inline-four drives the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. An air pre-cleaner assembly is mounted above the hood. The engine and transmission were disassembled and refurbished in 2003, at which time the wiring harnesses, starter, generator, and clutch disc were replaced, the radiator was recored, and the pressure plate was rebuilt. The fluids were changed and the battery was replaced in April 2024.

The tractor is equipped with a rear drawbar hitch, belt pulley, and power take-off.
